Donate to the Hope Fund

The Hope Fund was established by the adoptive family of a severely neglected puppy who arrived at Claiborne Animal Shelter in critical condition. At just seven weeks old and weighing only one pound, the puppy—later named Hope—was suffering from extreme starvation and a devastating leg injury that required immediate amputation to save her life.

As a shelter operating solely on donations, we often lack the resources to provide advanced medical care for special needs animals. Moved by Hope’s story and determined to help others like her, her adoptive family created The Hope Chest —a dedicated fund to provide urgent medical care for shelter animals in crisis.

This fund gives animals who need “just a little extra help” the chance to survive, heal, and ultimately find loving forever homes—just like Hope did.

Shani's Story

Shani’s journey to Claiborne Animal Shelter began in the most heartbreaking way imaginable. A well-known feral cat in her neighborhood, Shani had been fed and looked after from a distance by a kind woman for nearly two years. One day, that same woman found Shani on her porch—barely alive and injured. Shani had dragged herself there with a noose still tightly in her mouth, the victim of an unspeakable act of cruelty.

Though she was feral, Shani fought to survive—and because she fought, we fought for her too.

With the help of The Hope Chest Fund, Shani received critical emergency care, pain management, and a safe place to begin her long road to recovery. Slowly, she started to heal—not just physically, but emotionally as well. In time, she began to trust again.

Shani’s story is a powerful testament to the resilience of animals and the importance of giving them a chance, no matter how broken they may seem. Today, she’s safe, healing, and serves as a reminder of why The Hope Chest exists—to stand in the gap for animals who have no voice, and to make survival stories like hers possible.

Whether they’re injured, abandoned, abused, or simply overlooked—every life has value. When we come together with compassion and purpose, we give animals the second chances they deserve. Your support doesn’t just help them survive—it helps them find love, safety, and a future.
